HARRIER NOTES

SUCCESSFUL RUN SEASON DRAWING TO OLOtE (By “Stamina.”) With three weeks to go before the conclusion of the Hamilton Harrier season, there has been no lack of enthusiasm amongst members, and it la significant that with most of the racing over, many are still continuing their regular training activities. The (Hamilton club were the guests last Saturday afternoon of the Christian Youth Movement Harrier Club at a combined run from the Hamilton East Methodist church. M. Dean and W. Jenkins of C.Y.M. were the traillayers, and they mapped out a clean hut solid seven-mile course. There was a good muster of thirty who set out In two packs down Wellington Street towards the river bank. The country then covered lay at the back of Hillcrest and over towards the Ruakura Farm, the trail finding Its way home via Ruakura, Peach Grove and Clyde Roads into Grey Street. J. Gardner Prominent. Jim Gardner controlled the fast pack and after being in the van over the entire Journey, outpaced the others in the run home. Since his removal to Auckland some weeks ago Jim has found time to visit Hamilton for the week-ends and never fails to turn out on a Saturday. He Is showing better form now than earlier in the season and it is a pity that he could not give of his usual solid effort at championship time. R. Gardner and A. Crabb were the next best on the day and another member who pleased was Alan Gardner. He went much better than he has done for some time. Polglase, Hamilton and Erwood were the best of the C.Y.M. contingent, but had Overheu been on the Job be would have probably made things a little more difficult for some of the leaders. Although a young organisation the C.Y.M. club have many promising Junior performers who will come on in due course. Some of their senior members would also improve with a little more competition. It is to be hoped, for the benefit of both bodies, that n regular inte'r-club conest will be Inaugurated next season. Forthcoming Events. The last few weeks of the harrier season are filled »with an invitation run and two Important events in the run from 'Cambridge and the Annual Pentathlon. Following is the remainder of the syllabus for the season: September 4: Club run—Cambridge to Hillcrest. September i 1: Invitation run as guests of Mr and Mr 6 F. Findlay. September 18: Annual Pentathlon — Claudelands showgrounds.
