WOMEN’S DIVISION

TE AROHA-WAIHOU BRANCH. Mrs A. Lennard presided over a large attendance at the August meeting of the Te Aroha-Waihou Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union at Waihou. The thought for the month was “Wondrous is the strength of cheerfulness.” The report on the Provincial Executive meeting was given by the branch delegate. The 'Rose Bowl competition was won by the Puru branch, Elstow gaining second honours. The competition for this year is to be a baby’s knicker set with crochet cot cover. Mrs J. M. Hair reported upon the housekeeping activities of the organisation throughout the Dominion, and gave an interesting account of a visit to the Correspondence School in Wellington, which is doing excellent work among the children who cannot attend school. The competition for the crocheted quilt was won by Mrs Punch, and a sweets competition resulted as follows: Mrs F. Martin 1, Mrs Lennard 2, and Mrs Meek 3. The hostesses for the' afternoon were Mesdames Mudgway, McCarthy and Jessop.
