GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

FINE WEATHER CONDITIONS. MANY SPECTATORS PRESENT. Beautiful weather conditions favoured the finals of the Ellis Cup and St. Andrews Cup played at St. Andrews links yesterday morning: as the conclusion of the South Auckland ladies’ golf championships. A very large number of spectators followed the Ellis Cup match between Miss V. Fleming (Christchurch) and Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui), and some most interesting play was witnessed. At the conclusion of the matches the trophies were presented to the winners and runners-up by the president of the club, Mrs R. English, who extended congratulations to them. Cheers were accorded the visitors by members of the Hamilton Ladies’ Club and the visitors accorded the local members cheers also. The clubhouse was bright with golden shaded Iceland poppies.
