“RIO RITA”
HAMILTON OPERATIC SOCIETY. COMBINATION OF UNITS. Rehearsals of “Rio Rita” by the Hamilton Operatic Society, under the direction of the producer from Australia. Mr Walter George, have reached an interesting stage with the combination of principals, chorus and ballet, and, Judging by the results as I saw them this week, the production will put the society back in its former proud position as one of the best in New Zealand. Lovett John Reidy Chick Bean David Reid General Estaban Frank Greer Davalos Eric McLellan Padrone .‘. Marcus St. James Katie Bean Jean Menzies Gonsalez Basil Harder Lolita Joy Crozier McKJnn Haig McLisky Wilkins John Armstrong Roberto Rex Walden Reporter Douglas Craig Waiters . . David Crabb, Donald Miller Policeman Noel West Servant Stanley Carroll Letter Carrier Keith Pratt Frasqueta Joyce Tooley Pancheta Moya Forster Dolores Hilda Hopkinson Alarqueta Alma Cole
Understudies have been appointed as follows:—Dolly, Rona Painter; Davalos, Roy Michell; Esteban, James Wells; Padrone. Eddie Purcell; Gonsalez, James Haycraft; Lolita, Hilda Hopkinson: Carmen, Alma 'Cole: Rita, Edna* Meikle; Jim, Donald McDonald; Chick, Kenneth Martin; Lovett, Stuart McGuinness; McGinn, William Prisk; Wilkins. Herbert J. Warrington; Roberto, Stanley Carroll: Katie Bean. Joyce Tooley; Roberto, Arthur Dawson. The chorus, under the direction of Mr. Stanley. James, are singing the tuneful music very melodiously, and the ballet, trained by Miss Mavis Laurenson, present some snappy dances.
