MORRINSVILLE COUNCIL

SPEED IN MAIN STREET HEALTH INSPECTOR’S EXPENSES (Times Representative.^ MORRINSVILLE, Friday. The fortnightly meeting of the Morrinsvlllo Borough Council was held last evening, the deputy-Mayor. Mr W. Morrloe, presiding. Also present were Messrs W. Hethorington, T. J. Ryan, L. Waters, W. MoPherson. B. Chapman and the clerk, Mr A. G. Strahan. An apology for absence waa received from the Mayor, Mr W. T. Osborne. A motion of sympathy In the death of his wife was passed to Mr D. Goodwin, a former councillor. A letter from the Secretary of the Treasury advised that an Order-In-Council had been passed authorising the raising of £2500. Bpeed Restrictions Commenting on a letter from the Commissioner of Transport, advising that it was considered that Studholme Street, from the northern boundary to Snell Street, and Thames Street from the western boundary to the saleyards. should be excluded from the 30 m.p.h. restrictions. Mr McPherson said the council should adhere to Its earlier decision, and stated that the fact that Terrace Avenue, leading off Studholme Street, was classed as a minor sideroad created a greater danger than If It had been regarded as an open road. There had formerly been a very serious accident there. If It were a minor side-road motorists did not necessarily exercise sufficient care In the vicinity, and this made the locality dangerous. j Mr Morrice supported the previous speaker and suggested that the Automobile Association was supporting the Mr Hclherlngton moved that the streets should ho taken separately, and agreed with the request as far as Thames Street was concerned. The council decided to adhere to its previous decision. Mr Chapman objeoted to the motion on the grounds that the finance committee had not forwarded a report on the matter. It was decided on the motion of Mr Chapman that the committee which was formerly set up to deal with tbs parking problem should bring down s report within one month.
