EAST OOABT CONSIGNMENT SALE AT MORRINSVILLE BEEF STILL FIRM (Special to Tlme9.) MORRINSVILLE, Friday. | A feature of the Morrinsvllle sale to-day was the great demand evinced, for the consignment of East Coast sheep and the special line of station bred oattle. These attracted a very large bench of buyers from all parts of the province and with competition keen from the outset quotations were very firm. The Crst pen of wether hoggets offered comprised a lot of 18 r> and these were knocked down for 29s 9d, while 27 7 sold for 28s fid and the balance of the line of 950 sold from 26s 9d to 27s 3d. Mixed aged empty ewes made to 39s Id, four-tooth and four- year-old empty ewes to 3 is 6d and full-mouth empty ewes from 2Us id to 21s id. The cattle also were In heavy demand, forward condition Hereford steers making from £lO 3s id to £lO 16s. Shorthorn steers to £9 13s. and three-year-old Polled Angus steers £9 iis to £lO 7s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report on the sale as follows: — There was nothing of outstanding quality entered In the cattle section, but quite a large proportion of the yarding comprised medium and unfinished quality and both shorthorn and P.A. cows were Included in representative numbers. The second class beef pens were well filled, while boners and stores also were plentiful. A full bench of buyers were operating and a good sale took place with values throughout being right up to the high levels prevailing. Practically everything changed hands and the stores and boners participated in the’ brisk enquiry. A few inferior types ot' dairies sold satisfactorily. Medium to heavy P.A. fat cows made £8 10s to £to 15s; lighter class do. £6 15s to £8; medium weight fat Shorthorn cows £6 15s to £8; lighter conditioned do. up to £6 12s 6d; heavy Jersey beef cows £5 10s to £6 Ms: medium fat Jersey cows £4 5s to £3 10s; unfin£3 2s 6d to £3 15s: rough do. up to £2 17s 6d; dairy cows and heifers Plain £6 5s lo £B. The supply of sheep was comparatively moderate and consisted of forward quality hoggets. A good sale was recorded, forward store hoggets bringing 23s lo 28s. The principal part, of our pis- yarding was voting pigs. Other than these a fairly' small entry nr light baconers and porkers was handled. For all classes competition was spirited and the quotations of other centres were, maintained without diseernable fiuctuations. PIO PIO CATTLE FAIR Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having held their spring oattle fair at Pio Pio on Thursday. The advertised number of cattle was offered to a large bench of local and outside buyers who came from as far afield as Palmerston North, Taihape, Tuakau, Papakura and Waikato districts. The offering comprised mostly lines of well bred yearling and two-year oattle, very few grown cattle coming forward. Bidding on all classes was free and a most satisfactory sale at prices pleasing to vendors resulted. The quality of the yarding was again good and the condition of the cattle all that could be desired. A total clearance was effected.. Top price for 4-year bullocks was obtained for Mr. R. Boddy’s entry of fresh conditioned cattle, which realised £lO 4s, while for good Polled Angus bullocks sold on account of Mrs. «. M. Wilson, of Pio Pio, £lO 2s was paid. Mr. : 11. Brickland, of Te Mapara, received top price of £8 2s for his pen of good quality 2-year Polled Angus steers. From Mr. M. Canty, of Paraheka, a pen of good yearling Polled Angus steers made top price of £0 12s, while good Polled Angus breeding cows from Paraheka, on account, of Mr. J. Strothers also topped the market at £8 10s. A line Of 100 good quality yearling Polled Angus heifers from Mr. L. (i. Purdie. Mahoenui, realised the good price of £5 per head.
