STAKE INCREASED TO £2500 LAP PRIZES INCLUDED ENSURING A FAST RACE (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Friday The New Zealand Trotting Cup. to be decided at Addington in November, has been made for horses that are assesed at 4 min. 26 sec. or faster fot two miles. The stake is for £2500. which is £SOO more than last year’s race, and £IOOO increase on the 1935 The committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has incorporated a condition in the programme which gives it the right to decline the fiual acceptance of any horse and to refund any payments made. This condition lias been adopted for the purpose of excluding horses the committee may consider are past their best or otherwise unsuitable to compete for the big prize. Lap prizes have also been included in the stake and a time restriction has been placed on the first four furlongs and the one mile and a-quarter. The Additional Prizes A prize of £IOO will be given to the horse first past the winning post, the first time round, provided that part of the contest, which is four furlongs, is covered in I min. fi sec. or faster. Another prize of £l5O will be given for tlie first horse past the winning post, the second time round, which distance Is a mile and a-quarter. and must be traversed In 2 min. 45 sec. of faster. Should the track be slow the aeetional times will be revised. The object for lap prizes Is to ensure the race being run In fast time and to provide a thorough test of stamina.
