BATHS AT MINES.
NEW SCHEME IN BRITAIN TO COST £625,000 A YEAR (Official Wireless.) RUGBY. Aug. 25 Plans have been prepared for the provision of pithead baths at practically every coal mine in Britain during the next seven years. The scheme is outlined in the report for 1936 of the Miners’ Welfare Fund. In the past £375,000 a year has been allocated from the fund for this purpose. It is now intended to expend £625,000 a year. By the end of last year negotiations had been started for 76 installations, accounting for £1,200,000, in addition to 51 installations costing £947,000, already in course of construction, or for which tenders had been obtained. These schemes are spread over England, Scotland and Wales, and it is hoped that by the end of 194 4 all men employed In the mining industry, numbering 780,000, will be provided for. Since the fund was started £4.250,000 has been spent on pithead baths.
