THE OUTRAGE INJURY TO AMBASSADOR SHANGHAI, Aug. 26 The attack on Sip Hughe Match-Uu|l-Hugeasen occurred near Lake Taihu, 50 miles from Shanghai. Sir Hughe was travelling in the first car with Colonel Lovat-Fraser, Mr Hall Patch and a Chinese chauffeur. The second car contained Mr W. G. G. Graham, the Ambassador’s secrotary, and another Chinese chauffeur. The occupants were dashing for cover when one ’plane sprayed the cars with machine-gun bullets. Sir Hughe was not as quick in alighting as the others and was hit. Colonel Lovat-Fraser rushed back to his assistance, when the other ’plane dropped a bomb which exploded within 30 feet of the car and knocked out Colonel Lovat-Fraser. The 'planes flow so low that red suns painted on the wings were clearly visible. Both cars carried Vmon Jacks on the radiators. THE WAR IN CHINA HEAVY LOSSES OF 'PLANES SHANGHAI, Aug. 26 Tokio claims that 176 Chinese 'planes and 25 hangars were destroyed between August 14 and 25. The Japanese lost 16 'planes. ROTORUA GOLF. Zenovich (58), a widower, a shaftsman engaged on repairing No. 6 shaft at the Martha Mine to-day, fell from the No. 8 to the No. 10 level, a distanco of about 300 feet down a shaft and was killod instantly.
