STRIKE SETTLED
CARPENTERS AT ORAKEI UNDER FORMER CONDITIONS RETURNING ON MONDAY (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Thursday It was announced early this afternoon that the strike of carpenters engaged in the erection of State houses at Orakei had been settled. Since the work stopped on Friday morning the men have met each forenoon and the announcement made after to-day’s meeting -stated that the terms could not be disclosed until after a further conference of the union -secretary, Mg J. G. Kennerlev, with the representatives of the Fletcher Construction Company. Later It was stated that the men will return to work on Monday on the same conditions of employment as when they ceased work. It is understood that immediately after the Arbitration Court, which is now hearing evidence in regard to standard wages, makes its pronouncement, the Conciliation Council will be called together to consider carpenters’ wages.
