PARISHIONERS MEET
KNOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. REV. H. J. LILBURN’S REVIEW “On the whole the Sabbath services have been well attended, but I feel that the evening services, owing to counter-attractions, are not receiving the support that is warranted.” stated the Rev. H. J. Lilburn in his report at the annual congregational meeting of Knox Presbyterian Church, last evening. Mr Lilburn added that, despite the infantile paralysis epidemic all the Bible classes and Sunday schools had done splendid work. Lay preachers had rendered valuable service and it was the minister’s hope that in the future a strong band of lay preachers would be available. “The ladies’ guild has been particularly helpful, contributing over £IOO during the year,” continued Mr Lilburn, who added that the board of managers had once more completed a year of useful work. “We must not, however, rest on what we have been able fo accomplish in the past and there are higher levels to he readied. We feel handicapped in not having a suitable social hall and we hope there will he something done about this matter in the future,” concluded Mr Lilburn. Air G. 11. Clark, secretary and treasurer of the •church renovation and organ fund, explained that of the amount owing in ilie Xund. £55 14s had been subscribed during the year and there was now only £8 3s 5d outstanding. Though tile church had accomplished a good deal, progress was restricted by lack of money. A motion conveying the congregation’s thanks to the Rev. 'll. J. Lilburn and Mrs Lilburn was carried with acclamation. A presentation of r combination writing set was made to Mr J. Gardiner in view of his transfer to Auckland. Mr Lilburn paid a tribute to Mr Gardiner’s work in ail branches of the church’s activities and his remarks were endorsed by Mr Clark. Mr Gardiner suitably replied,. The following retiring members of the board of managers were re- J elected: —Messrs A. Milne (Hamilton East), J. Sharp (Gordonton), G. A. Henderson (Horsham Downs), and T. Martin (Rototuna).
