OBITUARY
NEW ZEALAND JOURNALIBT MR R. BELL DIES IN LONDON The death is announced in London of Mr Robert Bell, chairman of directors and principal proprietor of the Ashburton Guardian, and president of the Press Congress of the World, aged 74 years. Mr Robert Bell was born In Timaru end was educated at the Timaru Main and Ashburton High Schools. He Joined the Ashburton Guardian in 1903, and was a member of the press gallery in the House of Representatives in 1907. He became' manager of tlie Guardian in 1908, a position he occupied till when he joined the Expeditionary Force as an N.C.O He served in France with the Canterbury Regiment and was dangerously wounded at Bois Grenier in 1917. Upon his return he again took up journalism, and was advertising manager of the Dominion from 1918 till 1922. He has been managing director of the Ashburton Guardian company, Limited, and the Timaru Post Company, Limited, since 1922. He lias occupied numerous public and semi-public positions in Canterbury. He recently went to England on a health trip. He leaves a widow and a family of two sons and one daughter. MR CHARLES A. SHAW. CSpecial to Times). •CAMBRIDGE, Wednesday. The death occurred at Hamilton yesterday of Mr Charles Angus Shaw, aged 56 years, for many years a farmer in tlie Cambridge district, and at one time manager of tlie dairy factory at Leamington. Mr Shaw took a keen interest in the affairs of the district and was a past Grand Master of the Oddfellows Lodge. He is survived by his wife and family of three daughters and three sons, Misses Kate, Mona and Jean Shaw, and Messrs lan, Cyril and Max
