LIVE PIGEON TITLE
SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHEB AT MORRINSVILLE EVENT TO D. P. NORTH (Times Representative.) MORRINSVILLE. Tuesday The 1937 North Island Championship shooting tourney was continued at the Morrinsville Gun Club’s ground to-day when the main item on the card was the North Island Live Pigeon Championship. A clay-bird sweepstake was also decided in the latter part of the afternoon. Although the light was fairly good for shooting a blustery north-easterly wind made conditions fairly difficult. The Live Pigeon Championship drew an entry of 34 shooters and competition was keen throughout. L>espite the difficult conditions, some fine shooting was witnessed and few birds were lost in the opening rounds. Such was the standard of shooting that by the start of the sixth round there were still ten shooters all on. At the tenth round four contestants still had the possible. D. P. North (Whangarei) and W. G. Rae (Tauranga) went right through without the loss of one bird and five other competitors had 16 birds to their credit. Fine shooting was witnessed when North and Rae shot off for the title and again the former went through without a miss. Rae had a difficult bird for his first In the shoot-off, and this got away, costing him his championship chances. North brought his second barrel into play only five times in the main part of the shoot and Rae seven times. Thirty-six shooters lined up for the clay-bird sweepstake' which followed the championship match but the wind became stronger in the latter part of the day and affected the flight of the clays. Only four marksmen went on to break the possible.
Detailed Results.
The results of the day’s shooting were as follows—
North Island Live Pigeon Championship of 17 birds at a 28-yard rise: D. P. North (Whangarei) and W. G. Rae (Tauranga) both shot the possible and divided first and second money.
