AIR TRAGEDIES

CRASH INTO THE SEA SIX KILLED, TWO INJURED NOSE-DIVE INTO WATER United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright NEW YORK, Aug. 23 Six of the occupants of a United Slates Navy flving-boat were killed and two were seriously injured when the machine crashed in San Diego Bay to-day. Three bodies have been recovered. The craft was being brought down for a landing when the twin-motors sputtered and died and she nosed down into the water with such force that witnesses said the bodies were thrown many feet distant. Small boats, aided by searchlights from battleships and cruisers, were used for a search of the wreckage by divers with grappling hooks. It is believed that the bodies still among the wreckage are so wedged in that it will be impossible to remove them until It is towed to a shallower place. The flying-boat was part of a squadron which had flown to Honolulu several times. It was the squadron’s first serious accident.
