PUTARURU PRESENTATION
TO MISS MARY CLEARY. Miss Mary Cleary was the guest of honour at a gathering of friends In the W.D.F.U. Rooms, Putaruru, recently, held to farewell her prior to her departure for Suva (Fiji), where she will be married to Mr Serge Tetzner in September. Mesdames J. R. O. Lockhead, E. Hooper, A. G. Leggatt and Miss C. Scott we're in charge of the afternoon’s arrangements. A number of items was given as follows: —Mrs J. J. Shine (humorous sketches), Mrs G. G. Ranger (songs), Mrs F. Ward (Tirau), (songs), Miss McCormick (Tokoroa), (Mouth Organ), Mrs Morcom (songs), and Miss R. Ashton (songs) and were very much appreciated. Miss Carlie Scott presented the guest of honour with a cut crystal Jug and goblets on a tray, and cheque, and Mrs Hancock of the Tirau Anglican Ladles’ Club also gave Miss Cleary an embroidered linen cloth. Miss Cleary suitably responded. A delightful afternoon tea was served during which the Rev. P. Cleary spoke briefly. Among those present were:— Mesdames ’Hooper, J. Ranger, A. L Mason, A. C. GORDONTON FUNCTIONS EUCHRE AND DANCE. A very Jolly dance was organised by the Gordonton Basketball Club, and held In the hall recently, when there was a large attendance. Golden daffodils and yellow japonlca lent a gay note with bamboo massed In either side on the slage. In the supper room the tables were tastefully arranged with vases of pink camellias and violets. The card tables were well patronised, the winners being Mrs W. A. O’Hearn and W. J. Carswell. Martin’s Orchestra played excellent music and Mr W. Sharp was M.C. A competition held was won by Miss Peggie Favllle.
SURPRISE PARTY. Members of the Gordonton Bible Class arranged a surprise party recently to visit the home of Mr and Mrs A. G. Parfllt, in honour of Miss Phyllis Partin's twenty-first birthday, and a very happy time was spent. Games, competitions, and community singing were much enjoyed. A pianoforte solo was given by Miss Marjorie Thomson, accordion solos by Mr W. Sharp, and recitations by Miss Mary Williamson and. Mr A. Silvester. During the evening a delicious supper was served, a feature being the iced birthday cake. On behalf of tho Bible Class 'and friends the Rev. Lilburn extended congratulations to tlie guest of honour, who was then accorded musical honours. Mr A. G Parfltt suitably returned thanks. A dainty posy was presented to Miss Parfltt bv Mrs S. Williamson. With the singing of “Auld Lang
