IN ALBERTA.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Inquiries as to the standing of the “expert" advisers to the Albert.) Government in the matter of Social Credit, made in your columns, did nol evoke any prompt response, and more people Ilian the writer, "Cannuck,’ . were really interested. Possibly the advocates simply did not know, for Mr Hunter is usually ready to supply any information that lie lias, and 1 a n sure endeavours to get it from official sources. 1 wrote away for some particulars, and in a letter from the south am told that the facts regarding Alberta and Major Douglas seem to be fairly well known. The English experts are said to he Messrs G. F. Powell and L. D. Byrne, and they were appointed by Major Douglas himself after consultation with a Mr McLaughlan, chairman of the Alberta Social Credit Board.

The Alberta legislation providing for the licensing of all banks and their employees is said to have been devised by the Major and mentioned in an address he gave some months ago. I do not see much of the propaganda of the movement, but am informed that,

speaking at Liverpool last October, the Major urged that all chairmen, «enior official's and managers of banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions should pay a license fee of £IOO. For every change in the personnel of a staff, within, say, five years, that is not due lo death or disability, litis license fee should he substantially increased. The general monetary policy would be laid down by Parliament, hut if it. did not achieve all aimed at wilhin a reasonable time then some of tlie.se licenses should be withdrawn and “very greatlv enhanced fees.” suggested to be 1000 times the original fee, should be demanded for a new license and Ihe money thus obtained be used to reduce general taxation. This policy, I am told. Ihe Major commended “to the Governments of New Zealand and Alberta.” My informant added that the members of the movement know all about these tilings, as they would certainly get a journal ! railed Hie “New Era.” so it is not tin I reasonable that u.aimuck’’ should ask I what nlfirial standing Mu* advisors sent !lo Mberla had. I would like lo ald i nn inquiry as lo the support Hint the I £100.0(10 license fee lias among he I advocates of Social Credit hero, and llinir strange silenoo about Ih-se things ! which I heir leader has boon advocating j for months and months.- I am. etc., g. in s.shhiuue. ! Hamilton, August 22.
