SOUTH AUCKLAND LADIES ELLIS CUP QUALIFYING PLAY SOME EXCELLENT SCORES Over 100 members of ladies’ golf clubs from many parts of New Zealand are competing in the' South Auckland open championship tournament which opened in fine but gusty weather iat the St. Andrews links to-day. On | many of the holes the cross wind made conditions difficult but the links are in good order. The first qualifying round for the Ellis Cup and for the St. Andrews Handicap was played this morning, while the second qualifying rounds were played this afternoon. In conjunction with each were decided the first and second medal matches. Many excellent gross scores were returned by players in the first qualifying round, the' best card being that nf Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui), who went round in 79. A feature of the senior medal match for players of 16 handicap and less was the excellent play of Mrs G. Ferguson (Middlemore), who carded a net score of 72. Miss Duncan, with a m/t score 74 was the next best medal player. First Round Scores.
