SUCCESSFUL SALE.

ST. GEORGE’S OFFERING. RATES FIRM ON LAST FIXTURE. An improved demand was evident on all sides when the second auotlon sale on behalf of the St- George’s Church organ fund was held In Frankton last evening. A total clearance was effected under the hammer, Mr A. R. Harding again being in the rostrum with Mr W. Whittaker in attendance. A very representative offering of goods from all parts of Hamilton and Frankton came forward, and bidding on edible lots soared. Generally speaking the supply of ladies’ underwear filled the demand, and male lines of this description were quitted readily. Dairy produce made pre-depres-sion prices, with best butter well above “guaranteed” rates. Cheese, contrary to expectations, remained firm. The numerous lots donated by Auckland manufacturers also met with a very keen demand. Despite a full supply, fruit and vegetables were in keen request and many buyers were disappointed. Between the sales Items were given by the following artists: —Mr G. Grlgg (cornet), Mrs C. Wilson (songs), and Miss V. Porter (elocution). Buyers were led In community singing by Mr 0. Jones. Mrs F. .Kear was the accompanist. The Hamilton Citizens’ Band marched to the hall and attended in full force. ST. GEORGE’S ORGAN. REBULT OF ESSAY COMPETITION A very large number of entries was received and although praotloally every entry was correct in so far as the King’s English is concerned there was not a single competitor who forwarded an entry to correspond with the essay held by the Rev. R. J. Boyt. In numerous instances as many as 23 words were incorrectly placed where* as the winners, whose names appear below, each misplaced 10 words. The prize of £4 Is, therefore, shared between these four competitors:—

Mrs J. Ferguson, 5 Dyer Street, Whitiora. Miss Shaw, 77 Ulster Street. Mrs E. G. Simmons, 85 Peachgrove Road, Claudelands. Robt. R. Watson, Ward 8, Waikato Hospital. The correct essay is as follows: — As parishes go, even in a new country like New Zealand, St- George’s, Frankton, .must be considered of very recent growth. There was a Sunday School at Frankton In 1905 and the first Church hall was built In 1907, the first service being taken by the then Vicar of Hamilton on November 24th.. 1907. On February 10th., 1915 the first Church of St. George was dedicated by Archbishop Averlll and this served the district until late In 1923. Frankton was made a parochial distriot In this year and it was found that the Church was not large enough to serve the needs of a rapidly growing township so the present Church was built and was dedicated on May 4th., 1924. This Church is a large Church complete with lady chapel, is beautifully furnished and thoroughly deserves the praise meted out by the present Bishop of Wellington, Bishop Holland, who, after being conducted around said it was one of the nicest wooden churches he had seen in New Zealand. For 30 years the music to assist the choir and congregation has been supplied by an American organ or harmonium. However, ever since the new St. George’s was built there have been great dreams about a pipe organ, but there seemed little hope of these dreams being realised because of a huge debt on the young parish. Parishioners and others, nevertheless, declared that they would give all possible help to reduce this large debt ancl It was discovered that by the holding of a large number of delightful social functions and by both small and big “Bring and Buy” afternoons at which many of the newest goods were inspected and by numerous other I methods it has been found that, in ! recent years this debt has been reduced so handsomely that the Vestry thought the time was opportune to go ahead and work for the new organ. This new and handsome pipe organ is being built by Mr F. W. Hardingham, of Hamilton, at a cost of £6OO and will be inslalled In St- George's by Easter, 1938. It Is a two-manual organ equipped Avitli all the latest electrical devices and Improvements and will be an instrument of which parks!) ionrrs and others may he Justly proud and which will meet the requirements of St. George’s Church for many years to

St. George’s Church merits a pipe organ and upon Its installation eany next year the worshippers will tact*, fool that the Church Is complet'd/ equipped to render the stately worship of the ancient church of which it is a small part.
