ANNUAL BALL,

FAIRFIELD SCHOOL FUNCTION. FANCY DRESS EVENING. A colourful scene, with gay children and varied and pretty fancy costumes, was witnessed by many parents and friends in the Alexandra Hall on Friday evening, on the occasion of the annual plain and fancy dress ball of the Fairfield School, which provided a fitting ending to the school term. A comprehensive and interesting programme was presented, and much appreciated by the spectators, including *old-time dances, folk and other dances, and the intricate and popular grand marches. The programme opened with the National Anthem, followed by the grand marches, conducted by the headmaster, Mr R. E. j Andrew, and Mr H. Rintoul, and was j varied with items by many prepared j groups of pupils. Th* infants, in four numbers, directed by Miss A. E. Atkinson and accompanied toy 'Miss E. !
