VALEDICTORY.
MR J. CROTHERB FAREWELLED. PRESENTATION AT NGARUAWAHIA. (Special to Times.) NGARUAWAHIA, Saturday. Opportunity to bid farewell to Mr J. Crothers, who has been the Central Waikato Electric-Power Board’s resident engineer at Ngaruawahia for the past 17 years, was taken on Friday evening, when a valedictory function was held in the Council Chambers. There was a large attendance of borough councillors, business men and citizens, the Mayor, Mr R. Eyre, presiding. In presenting Mr Crothers with a handsome oak clock as a mark of appreciation and esteem from the citizens, Mr Eyre expressed regret at his departure. Two ex-Mayors, Dr. D. Martin and Mr H. J. Sampson, and a member of the present council, Mr C. McCowan, also spoke in high terms of the service rendered by the guest of honour In the Interests of the community. Other speakers were Mr R. P. Knight and Mr J. R. Redpath, who referred to the good work done by Mr Crothers as a member of the school committee over a long period of years. The health of the guest of honour was drunk with musical honours. Mr Crothers suitably responded. The only other toast was that of the town clerk, Mr 11. B. Fraser, proposed **y the Mayor. Betts, of Kaponga, was fare • celled by the executive of the association. Mr Betts has been transferred to Te Vwamutu.
