TROUT FISHING.

NEW SEABON POLICY. DECISIONS AT CAMBRIDGE. (Special to Times). CAMBRIDGE. Monday. Policy matters and arrangements for the 1937-38 angling season were discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society held in Cambridge on Saturday evening. Delegates were present from Auckland. Te Aroha. Pularuru, Cambridge. Hamilton, Matamata, Huntly, Te Awamutu and Te Kuiti. Mr F. E. McKenzie, president of the society, presided. The position of the southern boundary of the Auckland acclimatisation area was the subject of a remit adopted for consideration by the North Island Acclimatisation Societies’ Council. It recommended that the southern boundary be amended to be tlie .Hotoliei watershed, instead of the Wanganui River. The question of the day license-fee was considered and it was thought that the present charge of 5s was excessive. The Cambridge and Hamilton branches favoured a reduction to 3s and the Matamata branch to 2s 6d per day. It was decided to recommend to the Government that the daily fee 'be 2 s 6d. Trolling on Arapunl Lake. After being rejected for six years, a remit was adopted in favour of trolling on Arapuni Lake. The conditions are that boats plying for hire be prohibited and that not more than two rods be used on any boat at the one time. Various opinions were expressed on the subject, of permitting fishing with spoon on the Waihou River below the Itotonua Hoad bridge, and it was decided to permit spoon fishing on that stretch. A motion, moved by Mr H. Roche, that the hours of fishing be limited to from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset was lost by a large majority. It was resolved lo request the Auckland council to forward a remit to the Department of Internal Affairs, urging that geographical group fishing licenses be issued in place of the present general licenses, at sucli fees as the Minister may from time to time determine, and that a system of endorsement of sucli licenses be introduced to permit their use in other groups. It was further recommended that the Auckland group license should be 30s. On the motion of Mr C. A. Whitney, It. was decided that the Marine Department he asked to supply all available data in regard to the acclimatisation of salmon in the Waikato River, with a view to stocking the river.
