The English county cricket competitions were continued, with the following results: —» Middlesex v. Somersetshire—Middlesex, first innings, 393 (Edrich 129, Hart 84, Compton 81). Somersetshire, first innings, 130 (Robins 5 for 73, including the hat trick). Following on, they made 131 (Sims 5 for 55). Middlesex won by an innings and, 132 runs. Yorkshire v. Glamorganshire.— Yorkshire, first innings, 350 (-Mitchell 10‘5, Barber 86) ; second innings, 7 for 171 (declared). Glamorganshire, first innings, 243 (Verity 5 for 76) ; second inniiigs, 199 (Verity 5 for 71). Yorkshire won by 85 runs. Essex v. Nottinghamshire —Essex, first innings, 301 (Wilcox 90, Harris 4 for 34); second innings, 7 for 266 declared (Wilcox 99). Nottinghamshire, first innings, 288 (Nichols 5 for 78) ; second innings, 108. Essex won by 171 runs. Warwickshire v. Burrey.—Warwickshire, first innings, 253 (Crammer 85) ; second innings, 8 for 263. Surrey, first innings, 9 for 369 declared (Holmes 81, Barling not out 92). Surrey Avon on the first inning 3. Hampshire v. Worcestershire. — Hampshire, first Innings, 103 (Perks 6 for 47); second innings, 191. Worcestershire, first innings, 292 (Human 78) ; second innings, 0 for 13. Worcestershire Avon by 10 wickets. Northamptonshire v. Lancashire.— Northamptonshire, first innings, 227 (SnoAvden 128, Sibbles 5 for 43) ; secon'd innings, 4 for 225 (Timms 104). Lancashire, first innings, 6 for 230 declared (Iddon not out 83). Lancashire won on Hie first Innings. Gloucestershire v. Kent—Gloucestershire, first innings, 434 (Parker 210); second innings, 182. Kent, first innings. 399 (Woolley 100); second innings, 2 for 219. Derbyshire, first innings, 8 for 485 declared (Worthington 238, retired hurt); second innings, I for 47. Derbyshire won by nine wickets. Nichols’ Great Achievement. The Essex player Nichols, for the third year in succession, is the first lo attain 100 wickets and 1000 runs lie lias accomplished this feat six times in all, beating the record of the laic J. W. Douglas.
