Bookmakers threaten to boycott a'l the metropolitan courses if the New South Wales Government refuses t<» afford relief from the incidence of the “ turnover tax of 1 per cent.,’’ which they declare will force them out of business. One bookmaker claims that he paid more than £3OOO to the Treasury last year in taxation. He says he cannot maintain the strain. A meeting is to be held on Monday of bookmaker members of Tattcr»a?ls and City Tattcrsalls Club to decide whether they will withdraw from all the courses until relief is granted.
