Rushing to the telephone, she j attempted to summon the police. Before she could operate the In- j strument she was rendered unconscious by a blow on the head, and was discovered an hour later by her father lying on the floor. The drawers and other receptacles had been ransacked, but it is not thought that the Intruder got much for his pains, nothing of value being missing. On a previous occasion Miss Rogers had encountered a strange man In a shed on the premises, but he decamped before help arrived.
