The touring Springboks made history at Lancashire Park to-day when ihey defeated Canterbury by 23 points to 8. being the first oversea;., team to beat Canterbury since 1838. The visitors played brilliant football, Harris, the fly-hall being tilt outstanding player on the field. Early in the second spell the Canterbury backs staged a great movement and Brooks dummied cleverly to make a great dash but he hit the post and the Springboks forced. Then the South Africans came again and do Villiers, Harris, Bester, van den Berg and Strachan handled for the latter to run around near the post while Turner added the necessary points.
