BRILLIANT FUNCTION
ANNUAL MILITARY BALL. CORONATION DECORATIVE SCHEME DEBUTANTES PRESENTED. A patriotic coronation decorative scheme of red, white and blue, with flags and bunting flying throughout, and the blue and scarlet uniforms of the ofllcers. mingled with the more sober khaki of the men, lent an appropriate and very -military note last evening in the Frankton Town Hall on the occasion of the Coronation Military Ball held by the officers and men of the Ist. Battalion of the Waikato Regiment. The function was a brilliant - one and a great success, and was largely attended. Large flags were arranged most effectively, with massed greenery about the walls of the hall, and across the doorways In the centre of the hall, with graceful nlkau fronds. Strings of smaller flags hung overhead, and bunting and strings of flags covered the front of the spectators’ balcony. Coronation shields in red. white and blue, small -crowns, and flags bearing the portraits of the King and Queen were also arranged about the walls. The dominant feature of the decorations, however, was the slage, outlined In red, white and blue lights, with a huge, brilliant, illuminated crown comprising four hundred bulbs and finished in red. white and blue against a black panel. The front of the platform was covered with broad bunting, and above the stage hung festoons of red, white and blue, strings of flags and bunting, three small crowns across the front adding a further coronation note. In the supper-room, red, white and blue again predominated, the walls being draped with broad bands of red, white and blue, and a canopy of streamers In these shades hiding the ceiling, the central pillar being entwined also with the streamers- Flags draped the windows, and the lights were shaded In red. while an unusual note was struck with coloured prints of old Imperial Army uniforms about the walls. The tables looked very lovely with polished bronze shell eases and lovely howls of vividly coloured red japonlca, camellias, anemones, berries and trails of asparagus fern. At the side of the ballroom a marquee had been erected for sitting out. and arranged as a lounge, with easy chairs, having potted shrubs, nikau fronds and massed greenery, red flowers and spring blossom In conservatory effect, and strings of flags overhead. Gn arrival, the host and hostess, Lieutenant-Colonel C. S. White, V.D., and Mi's W bite, of Auckland, were mel by Major A. E. Gibbons, Major Bateson. Captain G. Dlftmer. M. 8.C.. M.C..
