THE RACING WORLD

By "Martian."

GOSSIP FROM ALL PARTS,

The first race at the Pakuranga Hunt, at Bllerslie, on Saturday, is due to oommence at 11.49 and the last race at 4.44. Not Making Trip. Pango Is not making the trip to Ellerslle for the Pakuranga Hunt. To Ride All Irish. J. H. Mcßae has been engaged to ride All Irish In the Pakuranga Hunt Cup at Ellerslle. A Good One. Rival Hit Is a bold galloper and will be hard to beat In good three-year-old races. Jookeys’ Ball. The Te Rapa Jookeys’ Ball, In aid of the W- Rennie Fund, will be staged In the Frankton Town Hall, this evening. Free buses, as advertised, have been arranged. Knight of Australia. Knight of Australia is In a forward condition to contest the Jellicoe Handicap but, while his prospects cannot be too Lightly assessed, he would be preferred more over a longer journey. Condition of Kelly. Kelly Is reported to have freshened up splendidly and is expected to strip In good heart for spring engagements. He was sent alor^ - over three furlongs the other morning and appeared eager to gp. Kilonaa. IKilonsa is to contest the open sprint at the Pakuranga Hunt on Saturday and a line through her recent efforts on the tracks suggest that she will be a dangerous factor. With 8.1 she is handily weighted for the part.

TANGLED. Aocordlng to latest advloe from Awapunl Tangled Is to fulfil his engagement at the approaching Pakuranga Hunt, at Ellerslle. He has been elevated to 11.0 In the Hunt Cup following his Rlooarton successes but his splendid condition will stand to him. Winning form Is good form and L. Knapp’s representative will command a liberal measure of support when he goes Into the starter's hands on Saturday. Trackman. .No horse has been working better on the Woodville tracks lately than the promising hurdler Trackman, whose next engagement will be at New Plymouth. This Tractor gelding was unlucky at Marlon, where at his last start he finished second to I'nexpec.ted. He appears to be much Improved since then. Klltowyn. With the prospect of a Arm track at Ellerslle on Saturday Klltowyn, who has been shaping well on the Ellerslle tracks, will advance- In favour. He Is a bold mover and the recent quality of his preparation should ensure him stripping fit and well for the part on Saturday. He has 8.1 in the Jellicoe Handicap. Catalogue and the Cup. Catalogue was not produced on Saturday at Riccarton, as It was considered that lie had had enough for the time being, and his stable had a strong second string In Old Surrey. Catalogue will now have a brief respite, and he will then be set on a preparation for the next New Zealand Cup in November.

LOCHIEL LAD.

Loohlel Lad Is entered for both th-e Greenmount Hunters’ Steepleohase and Pakuranga Hunt Oup on Saturday but present Intention* are to reserve him for the former event In preference to the ohlef oontest. The form of Loohlel Lad In the Hunt Club Cup at the Great Northern meeting was encouraging and with the servloes of that good horseman, R. E. Thomson, he will, In all probability, dominate the betting-

Windsor Lad. Windsor Lad is to be ridden by the Hamilton horseman, J. Day. in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup on Saturday. Windsor Lad won attractively at the last start, at Te Awamutu, and despite his 12.2 he Is sure to give a good account of himself in his approaching engagement. King Neptune. 'King Neptune now appears to have thrown off all signs of the bleeding trouble that marred his career last season. lie has been striding along freely on the tracks at Ellerslle and should perform well in the present term. When thoroughly attuned ho is a galloper above the average.

A Likely Improver. Among the likely improvers contesting the Hunt Cup at Ellerslle on Saturday is Sleepy, who in the Rangitlkei Hunt Cup impressed by accounting for Miss Pango in decisive style. Since arriving at Elleralie he has been shaping well over the Ellerslle country and is sure to command strong support when paraded. London’s Credentials. V/ien London won at the Waipa meeting In June he displayed his best form for some considerable time and while his task will Lie Infinitely more diff\cult on this occasion he will need only to reproduce his Te Awamutu form to possess more than an outside chance. He has but 9.3 on Saturday and that will assist his chances. Matamata Profit. The race meeting account to be submitted to the annual general meeting of member: of the Matamata Racing Club disclosed a nett profit of £l9lO 16s. After allowing for depreciation and bad debts to the extent of £6lB. the net profit on the year's working is £1034 is I Id. The meeting is to consider the erection of a Stewards' and Members’ stand. Valamlto. Valamito again drew attention to his immediate prospects at Takaninl the other morning when he took the measure of Round Up in a smart trial over five furlongs, cutting out the distance in 1.4 1-5. It was the manner in which he revelled In his work over the deciding stages that impressed particularly and he looks like being a payable proposition during the new term. Galllo. Gailio has been off the scene for a considerable spell and while there will be an appreciable section who will couple this and his solid poundago against him In the summing up of the open sprint at the Pakuranga Hunt it should be remembered that has has been In steady work for some time. It Is quite on the cards therefore that, he may strip in far better nick than some anticipate. The Next King's Cup, It Is Tasmania's turn to run the King's Cup. and, although neither the date nor the venue has yet been decided for the noxt oontest, it is the general expectation that the Sup will be decided at the Tasmanian Turf Club's Summer Meeting at Mowbray, the northern course, in January. The first ’King’s Cup run in Tasmania in 1932 was decided at Elwick, under tho Jurisdiction of the Tasmanian Racing Club, and was a great attraction. It was won by Mr E. Lee Steere’s New Zealand horse Second Wind, ridden by W. Duncan. It Is expected that the Tasmanian Turf Club will offer a £IOOO slake for tho next Clip. Hla Last as a Trainer. J. W. Shaw, who will hand In his trainer's licence before the end of the month, wound up his training career very successfully. At the trots at Christchurch ho won with Golden Eagle and he drove Tempest to win the last race of the meeting. At Iliooarton on Saturday lie won with Waitaka in the seventh race, while Greek Gold ran second In the last event, Pahu also got third in the Lincoln Steeples. Matoru has been sent up to H. Telford at Trentham, while High Quality is to be returned, to his owner. All other horses at present trained by Shaw will be carried on by his suooessor, F. Roberts, who will oontinue to have the assistance in the stable of G- Rridgway. Useful Hurdler Lost. Golden Lap, who met his death in the Styx Hurdle Race at ltJoearton on Saturday, won a race in dashing style at the Dunedin winter mooting, but he then went, off, and It was not until last week that he was coming right again. His owners placed a lot of confidence In him on Saturday, but the unfortunate gelding appeared to be blinded at tho second fence, and crashed through it. Messrs Hazlelt Bros., Invercargill, have had 111-luck with their horses during the win I eras 'Hunting Go and Signaller both went out in the peak of the Jumping season. Their new Jumper, Corowa, had one race, his first over hurdles,’ last week, and although he finished well -back, his display indicated that lie wil make good with more experience.
