SUCCESSFUL YEAR.
COMPANY’S PIG FARM. BUTTERMILK PRICE IMPROVES. “ At the last annual meeting It was intimated that the company had purchased a form at Te Awamutu to deal with the buttermilk from that centre,” commented Mr R. Ji. McKenzie, in his address to the suppliers to-day. *• This venture has more than realised expec- : tntions, returning a price for butter- ! milk far in excess of anything hitherto obtained. Up to May 31, 1937, constituting less than a year's operations, I the farm had sold 1736 pigs and had "n hand 11-02 pigs of all ages and grades. During the year 33 pedigree i boars and 10 pedigree and 150 cross- i bred k sows were sold to our suppliers, i These are carefully selected anil are : nol disposed of under the age of six j months by which time their conformation, soundness and breeding potentialities have been proved. They can| then be sent forward to the purchasers { with every confidence. Great interest in the farm has been' shown by our suppliers and others In- i tercsted in the Industry. No less than : 10 field days have been devoted to various organisations and seldom a day * passes without visitors. * I ” We have been unable to cope with ! the demand for boars and breeding sows this year but we hope In the! future to bo able more nearly to meet i the requirements. About 100 of our suppliers have purchased breeding stock this year and numerous repeot; orders are on the books awaiting ful- 1 fTlment. We would advise suppliers who require stock to place their orders as early as possible to avoid dis- ! appointment to themselves and at the same time assist the farm manager. I Creditable Performance. The advice of the farm manager, 1 Mr H. .1. Webber, is at all times available.
