ARRIVAL IN AUCKLAND. CALL AT PITCAIRN ISLAND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. The cruiser Leander, which Is a sister ship of H.M.S. Achilles, arrived at 9.30 o’clock this morning from Plymouth, to join the New Zealand Station. She called at Jamaica and Panama Canal ports, and was the first naval vessel in 20 years to rail at Pitcairn Island. She omitted the proposed call at Fiji as she would have been unable to refurl there. She had a good voyage except for three days’ rough weather in mid-Paclflc and a severe gale which she ran into five days out from New Zealand, causing speed to be reduced. The Leander is under !he command of Captain J. W. Rivetf-Carnac. ! With her company at their stations, the new cruiser berthed smoothly at Calliope Dock in brilliant sunshine.
