RELAXATION BEFORE MATCH. j WEATHER FINE : GROUND FAST. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, Wednesday. Relaxing after the strain and excitement of the First Test, the springboks have spent a quiet time since j their arrival in Blenheim. In fact, at ; their own special request they have been left severely alone and the only formal functions will be tendered after to-day’s match. Some of the players indulged in a light work-out yesterday afternoon. Others played golf. All retired early to make up arrears of sleep lost while travelling last evening. P. J. Lyster and A. D. Lawton, whose profession is law, were guests of the Marlborough Law Society at a dinner tendered the Minister of Justice, the Hon- H. G. R. Mason, on the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone of the new courthouse. This morning they left for a motor tour of the district. The weather today is brilliant- and the ground will be fast and fiery after the prolonged dry' spell. A large crowd is assembling from a wide territory covering practically the whole top half of the South Island, from which the combined team is drawn. The tourists will leave by bus for Christchurch to-morrow morning. The teams are as follows: — SPRINGBOKS. Fullback. —Turner. Threequarters.—Lyster, Bester, Lochner, Lawton. SPECIALLY CHARTERED PLANE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM. Wednesday. Air travel is brine used extensively ; by visitors to to-day’s Rugby match. * The exceptional interest in the j Springboks was emphasised this morn- j ing when ten Wellington Rugby enthusiasts arrived by air in a speciallychartered Lockheed-Electra liner to witness this afternoon's game. They had a fast trip under perfect conditions. It was the first visit here by any of the Union Airways new Ameri-can-built monoplanes. A special air liner also brought Nelson spectators, while the regular air services were heavily booked. The air services yesterday had a busy time, j a total of 82 passengers using the Woodbourne Aerodrome, the majority passing between Blenheim and Wellington. MOUNT COOK VISIT. (13y Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Tuesday. Advice was received in Timaru today that arrangements had been completed for the whole of the Springbok team to visit Mount Cook during their stay in Timaru. The party will leave here on Sunday, August 29, and will visit Hie Ball Hut and the Tasman Glacier on the Monday, and return to Timaru on the Tuesday. TEST GATE TAKINGS. (By Telegmpn.—Press Association.) \YELLINGTON. Tuesday. A final check of the gate takings for the Rugby test between South Africa and New Zealand reveals an increase of £sl over the amount previously published. The actual takings were £BlBl 11s 3d, of which the Government will receive £929 in amusement tax. CANTERBURY’S LOSS. Will LEANS FOR AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Wenesdav. Canterbury is to lose yet another good Rugby player by the transfer of H. Whillans, of Athletic, on,- «. f the. Canterbury side to meet the Springboks on Saturday, who will soon leave for Auckland. A member of the Police Force. Whillans has been transferred to Ho* detective staff at Auckland. One of the fine pack which has brought tie* Athletic senior side into prominence in the matches of a few seasons, Whillans is outstanding for his dash and skill in loose rushes and Mis performances for his province this season and , last have marked him as a forward of except a I promise. Still a comparatively young player, he should he --t' great value to Auek- . land.
