EAST MEETS WEST.
ROMANCE OF SOCIETY GIRL. A Sydney society girl’s engagement to a noted Japanese pianist was announced in Tokio recently. It is another Interesting example of how Romance jumps international hurdles and disregards race and creed. In this case, East has met West and wedding bells will ring for two. The girl, Miss Betty McDonald, has Just arrived In Tokio to wed Mr Nobushiro Katayama. The couple met in Sydney two years ago, when Katayama was studying music. Mrs McDonald, mother of the prospective bride, told the Australian Women’s Weekly that she thoroughly approved of the marriage. Both she and her daughter had always had an international outlook. “ I returned 12 months ago from several months’ slay in Japan," she said, “ and was charmed with the Japanese people. They are most industrious and extremely pleasant.” A typical Japanese welcome will he given by the bridegroom’s parents to the young Australian bride. This is indicated in a letter received by Mrs McDonald from Mr Shlges Katayama, father of Hie bridegroom. “ 1 and my wife are now ready and very willing to welcome your dear daughter as our daughter-in-law with true Darental love," lie wrote.
