The Maharahara Dairy Company, Limited, Hawke's Bay, won the Noxv Zealand cheese championship, and the Hauraki Plains Dairy Company, Limited, won the provincial championship. The butter entries showed a slight decrease on the numbers last year, but there xvere a few more entries in ihe cheese classes. There were 131 entries in (lie butter section and 9i in tlie cheese section. Remarks of Judges. The Judges stated that the general quality of both butter and cheese xvas pleasing and satisfactory. In the butter section some exhibits had been in store since March, but all the butter opened up sound and attractive in flavour. The class for butter taken at random from cool stores stocks early in April provided an illustration of hoxv such produce xx-ould open up on the overseas markets, and the entries represented butter manufactured in the Auckland, Wellington, and Taranaki provinces. The quality of all exhibits in this class xx'as still equal to “ finest ” grade. Cheese quality was generally good and sound, the principal defect being looseness In texture. There xx-as some lack of maturity in the flavour of the cheese entered In the classes representing matured cheese, but the xvinning cheese xvas xvell made and should give good satisfaction to the trade.
