Explaining ttie reason for the prohibition. the chairman. Mr T. U. Wells, aahl that experiences of tires at school buildings at Datgaville, Northcote and elsewhere in recent months had per- ! auaded members that it would be wise to Institute the ban on smoking. It had not been stated that tires bad been caused by teachers who had been careless when they were smoking, but It was felt that It would be quite possible for some teacher* to throw cigarette ends into wastepaper baskets ' or elsewhere and un-get t.» ? .**• that there was no ri .k of Ur - being caused by them.
