When he stowed away on the Tsmaroa at Wellington on Jun» 21 and hid behind the boilers, Montagu Aseender (24), a farm worker, thought he was going to see his parents in Kngland but although he reported to the captain on the first night out and ! worked well on the voyage he was put off at Balboa and kept in prison from July 10 to July 2i until placed aboard the Mataroa. which returned to Auck- : yand on Saturday. Before Mr Wyvern Wilson. S.M. today Assender pleaded guilty to stowing away. The police said Assender had worked well on both vessels. In a statement Assender had said he was unable to obtain farm work and having no friends in n**w Zealan i decided to stow swa;. The magistrate remanded him until Monday next for sentence.
