RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK.

BIG BUILDING PROGRAMME. ACUTE SHORTAGE OF WAGGONS. (Special to Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, stales that there Is an acute shortage of railway waggons, and a big building programme is necessary. One hundred waggons of the L-a type have been placed on the lines in the South Island, and providing necessary material can be provided 700 more of the same type will be built and upwards of 200 other vehicles arc to be provided in the immediate future. Items included in the building programme for the South Island for the current year are: Fourteen first-class (coupe) and 1 j second-class 56ft. main trunk cars; five 56ft. and four 30ft. vans; six class K locomotives (with booster), and 103 goods waggons of varying types.
