SPEED RESTRICTIONS
WAIPA COUNTY LIMITS. DEPARTMENT REOOMMENDATIONB. New speed restrictions for the W aipa County Council have been suggested by the Commissioner of Transport. At the monthly meeting of the \\ alpa County Council yesterday It was decided to concur with the proposals which provided for the 30 miles per hour restrictions on the following roads:— The Great South Road, from Hamilton Borough to Forest Lake Road. The further section to Yercoe Road is open, and it would be unreasonable to expert the speed limit to be generailv observed. The Great South Road, from HamllBorough to the south boundarv of Melville School, as requested by the council. Frankton-Pirongia Main Highway for 18 chains from the borough boundary, as requested by the council. Ivopu-Raglan Main Highway, for 5 chains from the western boundary of Hamilton Borough. The purpose of this restriction Is to slow' up traffic before reaching the junction of roads at the boundary, and a distance of 5 chains was considered to be sufficient The Great South Road for 15 chains north of Te Awamutu, as requested by the council. The Te Awamutu-Cambrldge Main Highway from the borough boundary to Te Rahu Road. The commissioner did not consider it necessary to extend the restriction beyond the junction on either the highway or Te Rahu Road. He considered that one sign suitably placed at this junction should be visible when approaching from either road. The commissioner Intends to communicate with the council later with regard to restrictions at Ohaupo and Kihikihi. The views of the Main Highways Board regarding these areas will first be sought. Practically the whole of the proposals were those requested by the council.
