CONFUSING SIGNS.
DANGER TO ROAD SAFETY. APPEAL BY MINISTER. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The acting-Minister of Transport, the Hon. 11. G. R. Mason, draws attention to a subject which caused some concern at the recent meeting of tho New’ Zealand Road Safety Council. This relates to the frequent use by advertisers of signs having a yellowground and black lettering and otherwise of such a nature as to be liable 10 be confused with traffic signs. “Whclher purposely or not,” said the Minister, “use of ibis lype of sign is becoming a common one, and the natural result is to delraef from the, value of Ihe authorised Ira file, signs which form such an important, part of the campaign for safely on our roads.” The Minister advised dial as a result, of Ihe discussion by the council, 11 unanimously passed ihe following resolution: "Thai Ihe council appeal lo Ihe advertising agents and others concerned lo refrain from using signs having a yellow ground and black let l ering of such a sort as may bo confused with Ira file signs.” Mr Mason continued: "I have written lo the variou-s advert King agents on this mailer, ami il is Imped tlial Ibexwill dissuade Iheir clients from using Hi is type of ad verl isemenl, which is liable |o lead |o confusion with Die I ra file signs.
