Train Strikes Bus
VEHICLE OVERTURNED
CHILDREN BADLY SHAKEN. LEVEL CROSSING CRASH. Twenty-three pupils of tho Hamilton nigh Scnool and Hamilton Technical College had miraculous escapes from serious injury when the Gordonton school bus. In which they were travelling to scnooi, cumcea witn me camcrioge gooas tram at me Victoria Street crossing at 8.45 a.m. to-day, the bus being thrown off the line and overturned. Although the children were all badly shaken, only one was injured, receiving a slight cut on the left arm from broken glass. The injured pupil was Pearl Greig, of Orini, a first-year pupil at Hamilton High School, who was treated in a nearby chemist’s shop. She went to school later, however, and was reported to be none the worse for her experience. The train struck the bus in the rear, pushing it off the line and forcing it over, breaking all the windows on one side and. causing fairly extensive damage. The train was on time, according to advice received from the Hamilton railway station to-day. It Is underj stood that the bell giving warning of j the approach of the train was ringing at tlie time, and that the signalman I with the ' slop" sign was on his way •to tlie crossing when the crash occurred. Eye-witnesses of the accident are unstinting in their praise for the behaviour of the children. There was I no indication of panic, the passengers extricating themselves quietly and in fin orderly manner. Tlie consideration shown girl pupils by the boys was also most marked.
