' A course record wa’s ci/atcd by Tongalla in winning the Australian Steeplechase at Caulfield yesterday. Taking charge in the last furlong from Montargis, Tongalla won very easily. The winner lost several lengths at the start, but half a mile from heme he was lying fourth, behind Dieaeum. Jehu and' Montargis. The last-named was the leader at the three furlongs, but after crossing the last fence, Tongalla set out In pursuit and was only half a length behind Montargis on entering the straight. Ajax went to the front after three furlongs in the Chatsworth Plate and won convincingly from Avenger. The Trump won the Malakoff Stakes, in which Golden Prom'se finished last. Membo was unplaced in the Knowsley Steeplechase. Jack Horner and Riddle were unplaced In the first and second divisions respectively of Ihe St. Aubln Welter Handicap.
