SPRING VALUES.

WAIKATO STOCK MARKETS. RETAIL PRICES HIGHER. Although it is customary for stock values to advance sharply during September, the comparatively mild winter coupled with the ideal weather experienced during the past week has resulted in the earlier introduction ot spring values at the sale yards. This week has been a sharp advance in prices for beef and in some cases values have reached a higher level than that which ruled during the peak ’ period of last spring, extra choice heifers selling from £l2 to £l4 ut recent Waikato sales. The rise in beef values at the yards has resulted in an increase in retail prices and this week Hamilton butchers have advanced the price of all classes of beef by Id per pound. With indications of a still further rise at the yards it is probable that there will be a corresponding rise in retail values. The mild and sunny weather during the week has been Ideal for lambing and although it Is yet too early to forecast accurately it seems probable that last year’s high lambing percentage will be equalled. The nature of the weather next week will have a very material affect on the lambing percentage as the crucial period of the lambing season is now being experienced and the continuation of fine weather will be the ardent hope of all sheep farmers.
