POLICE FOR HAMILTON
MEETING NEW CONDITIONS FOUR CONSTABLES ASSIGNED. WORKING -HOURS REDUCED. In order to meet the conditions involved In the shorter working hour 9 125 eligible young men, who have completed their training at Trentham for the police force, have been assigned to various districts throughout the country. Four will shortly arrive in Hamilton. They will be Constables D. T. Calder. D. M. Martin, L. A. Stacey and G. Tait. It is understood that Hamilton will receive a further consignment of police at a later date when another body of men, which are due to enter on training. «have completed their course. Extensive changes. It Is understood. will take place in the police force throughout the country. , Working Conditions. The TTon. P. Fraser, Minister In Charge of the Police Department,, announced some months ago that the Government had agreed to improve the remuneration and hours of work of Hie members of the force. The working time would he reduced: from r>P» to 48 hours a week as soon as a sufficient number of men could: he trained in order to meet the new conditions. It was with that end that, the 125 constables were trained at the special camp at Trentham. At. Hie same time it, was announced fhaf. the pay in the force would he Increased by ins a week. The -Commissioner of Police. Mr D. .T. Cummings, staled recently that the 48-hour week would come Info operation as soon as the new men were distributed.
