BRITAIN’S WAR DEBTS.
PAYMENTS TO UNITED STATES. RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF CREDIT. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyrlg-ht. LONDON, Aug. 13Britain may pay off her war debt to the United States in 2 5 or 30 years, at a rate of £8,000,000 io £10,000,000 a year. In spite of official denials, it is believed that the war debts problem Is being discussed on this basis. The capital sum owed will be reduced considerably. Britain's payments hitherto, which have been of capital and interest, will be regarded as all capital. To pay the United Stales even this reduced sum, Britain might need to cut down her rearmament expenditure somewhat. However, the policy of the Prime Minister. Mr Chamberlain, aims at re-establishing Britain's credit in America, which would enable her io borrow there. Such ability to borrow would make Britain’s defence position immeasurably stronger.
