GOLF NOTES.
HAMILTON LADIES' CLUB. HORTON GUP. (by “All Square.**) In great contrast to previous match days this season the first round of the Horton Gup competition was played in glorious sunshine on Wednesday. It was remarkable for the number of games which finished all square no fewer than four having to be played over again. This speaks well for the L.G.U. system of handloapplng. Mrs Fallwell and Mrs W. A. Smith, Mrs O’Connor and Mrs Tanner, Mrs Isdale and Mrs Riddell, Mrs King and Mrs Jewell were all square. Mrs Dent won on the 18th green against Mrs Aitke'n, Miss Coventry’s match went to the 18th green Mrs Mills losing 2 down, Mrs Mander was only 2 up against Mrs Bell and Mrs Holden did well to take Miss D. Eyre to the 18th green, the latter winning 2 up. Mrs Arthur Rnd Miss Masters had a keen matoh. Miss Masters winning 2 up on the 18th green. Mrs H. McDonald had a 5—4 win against Miss Gann, Mrs F. Groom was hitting long balls to beat Mrs Waring 5—4. Miss Wilkinson won from Mrs Russell on tho 15th green 4—3, Mrs McCracken had to go for It to beat Mrs James 3—2 and Mrs Daldy had to play to her handicap to beat Mrs 11. Ambury 5—4. The all square matches will be played over again on Monday. Reductions In Handicaps. The fine weather Is no doubt responsible for the number of reductions in handicaps this week. Mrs Tanner started off on Monday by reducing one stroke. Miss B. Clark who only earned a handicap this season has since' reduced another 4 strokes and is a very much improved player. Mrs C. L. MaoDiarmld who gave an indication last week that she was fast coming on to her game has sinoe reduced another stroke. Mrs A. Searell is now down to a 27 handicap having reduced another 3 strokes this week. Saturday Players. A handioap match play competition has been arranged for Saturday players. This is always an Interesting competition and as there are several new players competing, the e'vent will be watched with interest. South Auckland Open Championship tournament: Already entries are coming for this popular tournament, representatives from as far South as Timaru will be competing.
