COUNTRY STOCK SALES.

TE AWAMUTU QUOTATIONS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, report that at their Te Awamutu stock sale held yesterday, there was particularly keen enthusiasm shown by buyers ill all departments, notwithstanding that handlings were heavy. There was about 150 head of beef and 100 stores and boners, several pens of yearling and 2-year store steers and 50 yearling heifers. The ox, cow and heifer beef market was extremely buoyant and prices were up to the best of the advanced rates. On account Mr. W,.CL Murphy, medium Hereford - bullocks made from £l2 to £l2 6s; on account Mr. W. Bird, light cattle of the same class up to £ll 12s Gd; Messrs. H. and S. Rhodes sold 3 lighter ox at £lO 15s; from £l2 10s to £l4 was paid Mr. S. Thompson by Mr. D. J. McAlphine for some prime Shorthorn heifers. A line on aocount Mr. J. L. Mackv, of Polled Angus heifers realised £lO 7s 6d to £l2; up to £ll was obtained for Polled Angus heifers on account Mr. W. McGee. The top price for fat Shorthorn cows was paid to \lr. J. R. Flay who secured from £l2 18s to £l3, Messrs Kirkham Bros, sold prime Shorthorn cows up to £l2 15s and Mr. A. L. Rockall some up to £l2 ss. Right through tho sale the demand was consistently brisk, stores sharing in the animated inquiry. Medium fat Hereford bullocks made £lO l‘ss to £l2 6s; light cross bullocks up to £lO 15s; prime Shorthorn heifers. £l2 10s to £l4; medium, £ll to £l2 ss; prime Polled Angus heifers, £0 10s to £l2; heavy prime Shorthorn cows, £ll 5s to £l3; heavy Friesian cows. £0 5s to £10; prime Jersey beef cows, £7 to £0; medium Jersey fat cows. £5 15s to £6 15s; boners, £3 to £3 10s; others. £2 to £2 15s; yearling Jersey heifers, plain, £2 to £2 8s; 2-year Jersey store steers, £5 12s 6d to £6 2s; yearling Polled Angus store steers, £4 16s; Shorthorn and Friesian store cows, £4 15s to £6. Approximately 380 head of heifers was entered. The average quality was better than at the previous sale. The entry included the advertised herds on account Messrs. J. Papesch, E. Hopping and J. Culloty. A particularly large attendance of buyers was present. An animated sale transpired and practically the lot was absorbed, the range of prices being equal to the best of late quotations. The top price in the dairy section was paid for an outstanding Jersey heifer sold on account Mr. L. R. Kay and bred by Mr. IT. O. Kay. Faxawera, £l6 ss, by Mr. C. Wheatley, Korakonui. Extra choice Jersey springing heifers made £l4 to £l6 ss; good types, £lO to £l2 10s; medium, £8 to £9 10s; plain Jersey dairy heifers. £5 to £7; good Friesian springing heifers, £9 to £lO 10s; others, £7 10s to £8 ss; best Shorthorns. £9 to £11; good springing Jersey cows. £ll to £l4 10s: medium, £lO to £11: plainer, £8 to £9 10s. Fat and store hoggets accounted for tho principal part of the sheep entry hut a few pens of fat wethers and ewes came forward. A bright sale took place and the inquiry for store hoggets lacked none of the eagerness among fat buyers for grown sheep. A pen of extra good fat, hoggets on account Mr. Harris realised 38s 6d each; other heavy hoggets made 28s 6d to 34s 6d; medium, 24s to 27s 6d; good owe hoggets up to 345; small store ewe hoggets. 24s to ‘27s; store w.f. wethers, 25s to 26s 9d; store b.f., 22s to 2 is; heavy fat wethers, 37s Gd to 395; medium, 25s to 3Gs Gd; extra heavy fat ewes up to 37s 9d; others, 24s to 27s Gd. Roughly 700 pigs were penned. Most were stores and weaners hut a good proportion were fat pigs, but heavy baconers were scarce. Fats sold on a par with Frankton realisations. Notwithstanding the abnormally large supply, a good demand was maintained throughout with rates being similar to last week's.
