The British Government’s great slum clearance end rehousing campaign is still gathering momentum. During July local authorities declared for clearance areas comprising 4760 houses, representing a displacement of 19.446 persons, as against 47 47 houses and 16.173 persons in June. Tlie total number of houses in comfirmed clearance orders is now 151,597, involving a displacement of 649.611 persons. At tho end of June there were 64,108 houses under construction, as against 61.954 al Ihe end of May. ami 60.326 at Ihe end of April. The great majority of these houses are being provided for rehousing persons displaced in connection with the slum clearance scheme.
