SERVICE IN HAMILTON. Further correspondence relative to the practioe of taxis piling between Hamilton and To Rapa on race days under temporary passenger licenses and its effect on the taxi service available to residents in the town on such occasions was received at last evening’s m-eeting of the Hamilton Borough Council, in the form of a letter from the Transport Department, Auckland, advising that the matter ha?l been placed in the hands of the No. 1 Transport Authority for consideration. It was stated that the authority would bo pleased to have information on the number of taxis in Hamilton licensed to operate as such, before taking action, and that the council’s opinion on tho number of licenses necessary to serve the people of Hamilton on race days would be of assistance, as well as some indication as to whether the needs of racegoers would be adequately catered for If temporary licenses were issued only to a portion of the taxis at present operating. It was decided to refer the letter to the Transport Committee for Consideration.
