TE RAPA TRACKS
PAKURANGA CANDIDATES. TOSH SHAPES WELL. ORAC IN GOOD HEART. (By “Martian.”) Weather conditions were ideal at Te Rapa this morning when a number of candidates with engagements at the approaching Pakuranga Hunt, at Ellerslie. were galloped on the course proper some 25ft. out from the rail*. Several interesting trials were recorded although there was nothing of outstanding note. The going was inclined to cut out slightly but was in splendid order for this time of the year. Tosh (McKenzie) and Kilberis (McInaliy) were the first to work. They jumped off at the half-mile and though Kilberis opened up a break of a length and a-half in the early stages Tosh took his measure halfway down the straight to finish clear of his companion in 52 4-ss. lt wao a pleasing effort on the part of Tosh and he was travelling well within himself over the concluding stages of the trial. Orac’s Useful Six. Orac (McKenzie) and Bryce Street (Mclnally) were associated over six furlongs, Orac doing the better of the pair at the completion of the effort in i. 2- Both these members of M. J. Carroll’s string are bearing a healthy appearance and should strip well when next produced. Respectful (McKenzie) was a shade In front of Abbey Lass (Day) over the deciding stages of half-a-miie negotiated in 535. Respectful, who proved a remunerative proposition for A. P. Brady last season, did his work pleasingly and should give a further account of himself in the present term. Gadger (Thomson), Te Whiowhio (McKenzie), Red Fox (Reilly) and High Commissioner (Ozanne) finished as named at the completion of a round negotiated in 2.8 1-5. They ran their first five furlongs in 1 10 1-5 and the six furlongs in 1.26 4-5. Gadger is In good order to content his engagement at the Pakuranga Hunt. A Smart Effort. Mere Haka (Mclnally) pleased toy shading Young Paddon (Long) at the end of seven furlongs in 1.37 i-5. Mere Haka is on the upgrade and should perform well in the present season. A promising effort was credited to spinning Spear (Thomson), who accounted lor Tavern Song (McKenzie), Frisk Land (Ozanne) and Gappy (Reilly) at the completion of five furlongs in 1.8 1-5. Shining Spear is making good progress under W- E. CockbiJl's charge and interest will attach to his next appearance in public*. A Raceful colt and a Hunting Song filly were associated in a sprint down Ihe straight. Chang (Long) strode lazily over a round, running home from the six furlong peg in 1.29 1-5. He looks none the worse for racing at Trenthani and will strip well for engagements ahead. Solomon (Tilsley) and Gay Seton (McKenzie) sprinted home from the ihree-furlong peg in 36 4-ss. Calorie (Caledon—Lady Rawson) brushed over two furlongs along the back in 25 l-ss. Over Country. Precise (Muir) and Day Boy (Ferguson) were associated over a round of the steeplechase country and gave a good display, both handling their lences in commendable style.
