KANGAROOS DEFEATED. GEORGE NEPIA OUTSTANDING. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. The New’ Zealand Maori League team scored a good win over the Kangaroos, the visiting Australian Rugby League team. at Carlaw Park, yesterday, by 16 point's to 5. Although assisted by four pen alty goals, the Maoris fully merited their win and a feature ol the game was the splendid display at fullback of George Nepia, the famous ex-All Black, (n the early stages of the match Nepia obtained prodigiou-s length with his line-kicks and his defence throughout was exceptionally sound. R. Chase opened the score for the Maoris and llemi added the extra points. Then Nepia goaied well, and half-time found the scores: Maoris 7, Australia 0. The best try of tiie match came shortly alter resumption when, alter a bout of brilliant passing, Frederick raced over and Nepia just missed with a magnificent kick from the side-line. Curran scored for Australia auu Thompson converted. Nepia then added four points from penalties and. just before the game ended, sent another shot between the uprights to make I lie final score: Maoris 16 Australia , 5 SECOND TEST TEAMS.
