An official message states that altogether 49 air raids were carried out yesterday on North-East London, and 80 per cent, were countered before the targets were reached. There were 90 flights in mid-air at an altitude of 5000 ft. above London amid tiie rays of searchlights, and many clashes occurred when bombers were returning to their bases after dawn. Tiie Enfield munition works were raided 16 times in five hours. NEW RIVER GUNBOATB. CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION. (Ofllclal Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 10. The Admiralty has decided to entrust the construction of two river gunboats of the 1937 programme, the Dragonfly and Grasshopper, to Thornycrofts’ works, at Woolston, Southampton.
