FOW STREET CLOSURE.
EDUCATION BOARD REQUEST. CONSOLIDATING SCHOOL SITE. A request for the closure of a portion of Fow Street which at present traverses the site of the proposed new primary school there was received from the Auckland Education Board at last evening’s meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council. The board also asked that, if the section of the road were closed, the land might be included in the school site, and the road taken from Richmond Avenue through the eastern portion of the site and section 33 to Hammond Street. Such a procedure would make the school site a compact area and allow of a better lay-out. In view of the need for a new school, the board asked that the matter be regarded by the council as one oT urgency. “The road in question was put through by proclamation, without reference to the council or to the Domain Board,’’ said the Mayor, Mr J. H. Fow, “and it Is probable that had wo been consulted we would not have accepted its dedication. • I do not think I here would be anj* objection from the council to the’closing of the road, if the Education Board bore the cost.” It was decided to refer the matter to Die Works Committee.
